Award-winning Canadian filmmaker, Caitlyn Sponheimer, is one of our most exciting new directors. She is a DGC nominee, Reykjavik Talent Lab alumna, ACTRA nominee, Telefilm Canada and Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient. Her work has been shown at festivals around the globe with her first co-written feature premiering under Telefilm’s Best of New Canadian Cinema at Cannes Marche (’18). Caitlyn produced and costarred in the multi-award-winning Telefilm Canada and Alberta Media Fund feature “Jasmine Road” (’20). Her directorial debut feature film, the Crave/Telefilm “Wild Goat Surf” is currently on its festival circuit; taking home a Best Directing award with multiple other nominations. In 2021, Caitlyn amassed nearly 3 million views in under a week for the 20th Digital Studios/Freeform holiday short “The Ugliest of Them All”. Caitlyn has been mentored by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Marianne Farley and Academy Award nominated producer Evren Boisjoli. Caitlyn’s work leans toward the absurd, comedic, and often highly stylized; taking grounded topics and themes into a genre and visual language that draws viewers in. As a contemporary abstract painter, Caitlyn brings her love of graffiti, rich color palettes, and visual storytelling into her work in the film, TV, and commercial space; exploring the world between whimsical vibrance and dark rumination.
